With my daughter Kathy, only 25 species in about 2.5 hours, but some were
notable:
West of Earl's Picnic Ground, near where the trail fords LB Crk, a Kentucky
Warbler and a male Blue Grosbeak
On the ground at Earl's, what seemed to be a Rusty Blackbird (foraging near
a Wood Thrush). The blackbird seemed to be a female in plumage intermediate
between alternate and basic. This is a species I seldom see, so I'm a bit
uncertain about the ID. How likely is this? The books indicate that it
doesn't nest here, but could it be migrating now?
A Barred Owl, near the tiny creek you cross shortly before reaching Earl's
All of the above are lifers for Kathy, who didn't start birding until after
she moved to Seattle.
