This report is submitted on behalf of Jan Reese of Talbot
County, who continues to periodically survey the flora and fauna of Poplar
Island.
These sightings include the birds seen on May 26, 2005. Some of
the birds were seen from the boat during the trip from Tilghman Island and
back.
Jan adds the following comment: "The migrant shorebird peak
arrival at this latitude occurred right on time, i.e., full moon in May.
Over 8500 shorebirds including 15 species were counted on May 26th. This is
unprecedented at Poplar Island, and the list included some very interesting
species. I wish I had had more time to look more carefully for other
unusual species."
