Hello friends, Please forgive a slightly out-of-state report, but there was a major southward movement along the Allegheny Front at Dolly Sods, West Virginia this weekend. Good numbers of Red-breasted Nuthatches up there, and the first two 100+ bird days of the season at the banding station. Waves of passerines, many thousands of birds, could be seen moving south along the ridge. Especially numerous were Blackburnian, Black-throated Green, Magnolia, Black-throated Blue, and Tennessee, but also banded were Nashville, Redstart, Ovenbird, Bay-breasted, Blackpoll, Yellowthroat, Chestnut-sided, Canada, Hooded, and probably a few more. Black-billed Cuckoo in hand was fun to see. Raptors were also on the move along the ridge, with Kestrel and Harrier most common. Mark S. Garland Kensington, MD
