The St. Mary's County Kelp Gull was NOT SEEN all day today, Monday, March 1, despite birders looking for it from dawn to dusk. (I did not go at first light today, but a birder from Olympia, Washington, was, and reportedly did not see the bird even then.) Several dozen birders scanned both restaurants' piers all day long, and Tyler Bell was there until almost dark, to no avail. Weather today should not have been a factor. While windy and showery, it was not as bad as several other days when the gull was present all day. Food has not changed; Clifton put out raw oysters on the half shell in the morning, but the kelp gull did not come. I'll be out at first light Tuesday, and will ask Tyler to post an immediate update.
