FERRY NECK/RIGBY¡¦S FOLLY, just discovered, a few misplaced notes: May 2012.
May 18, 2012, Friday. A migrating Northern Rough-winged Swallow.
May 19, Saturday, wedding day. Many of us see a large Black Rat Snake on the N side of the house, c. 50 feet from where the ceremony takes place. This is not (repeat NOT) a portent. One Viceroy.
May 20, Sunday. Carl Perry sees an American Redstart, Will Russell, a Swainson¡¦s Thrush. One Red Admiral.
Here is a COMPLETE list of mockingbird imitations heard today by several of us: Gray Catbird, Northern Cardinal, Northern Flicker, American Robin, House Sparrow, Royal Tern, Greater Yellowlegs, Tufted Titmouse, Chuck-will¡¦s-widow, Brown Thrasher, Carolina Wren, Blue Jay, and Great Crested Flycatcher.
Lizard city. On the front porch a ¡ñ and a ¡ð Broad-headed Skink engage in what certainly seems to be a prelude to mating, he lying on top of her for minutes on end. These are big, impressive lizards, he with a bright red head, almost glowing. Two Five-lined Skinks are also seen.
May 21, Monday. A small Snapping Turtle crosses the driveway into the ditch on the S side of Field 4. Carapace is c. 8¡¨. By the time I dismount from the car it was gone.
Best to all. ¡V Harry Armistead, Philadelphia.
