Hi Everyone,

I have been stepping out most nights recently to listen for night migrants, and tonight was the first night that immediately got my attention. I listened here in Pasadena, near Fort Smallwood, from roughly 1:00 and 2:00 a.m. The flight was steady and pretty interesting in its make-up, including GREEN HERON (10), YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO (1), VEERY (9), SWAINSON'S THRUSH (12), WOOD THRUSH (6), INDIGO BUNTING (5), and a decent number of warbler sp. (27 calls).

Most interesting to me was a high-flying CASPIAN TERN that seemed to be clearly migrating south to north overhead at nearly 2:00 a.m.

Comments:
Calm night with mild wind and insect noise, but a surprising amount of distracting noise from distant cars and humans still awake. Recorded the full session with Sony PCM-M10 and will listen to see which calls were picked up. After each sound that seemed reasonable to be picked up, I noted it audibly for ease of locating in the long track and trying to isolate the call. Non-avian: Red Fox (the less common fox here), Fowler's Toads, Spring Peepers, Bullfrog.

Good birding,

Bill
