My curiosity got the best of me and I took a ride to Brooklyn this evening to try to track this guy down. I spent about 20 minutes in the vicinity of the Long John Silver's on Ritchie Hwy without finding him. I was hungry, so I stopped at the Popeye's drive-in (next door to Long John Silver's) and ate in the car. I finished stuffing my face and was backing out of the parking space to do some more driving around when the bird flew directly over my car heading north into the next stretch of stores. I ducked into the next parking lot and found him sitting on the roof of Advance Auto Parts. I spent about a half hour following him around in the car with my camera stuck out the window. What a cool bird. He has a neat way of taking off from the ground. He always lowers his head and takes a really rapid running/hopping start before he lifts off. If you haven't had your fill of picures, I've posted a few more here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27381338@N03/6983474635/in/photostream/ . If anyone in the Woodlawn area wants to see Wood Ducks, there was a beautiful pair among the Canada Geese and Mallards on Gwynns Falls Pond at the entrance to Woodlawn Cemetery on Woodlawn Drive this morning (@11:30 AM)
