Yesterday, while leading the Howard County Waterfowl Search, I spotted
very small goose which I took for a Cackling Goose. Upon closer study, we
realized that its bill was much too long for a Cackling. It also had a
darker breast that typical for usual Canadas. Size, again, was consistent
with Cackling, and it had a flat crown that I normally associate with the
Cacklings we see in Howard. However, it also lacked the steep forehead of
a Cackling. The big Sibley says that Lesser subspecies (parvipes) can
approach Cackling in size, but would one really be THAT small?!?!? I've
posted two shots to my Flickr account:

I welcome any opinions on this goose.
