Highlights (only) from Sat-Sun birding on the Island. Many ebirders around for complete lists.
Sat (10/1)
Lark Sparrow (1) - Bayside Maintenance yard. Found by Dan Small, Mike Orstrowski, Scott Housten. Based on plumage, different from bird up by dump station earlier in week.
Clay-colored Sparrow (1) - West end of Bayside C-Loop. Same area as earlier in week. With WTSP most of the time.
Wild Turkey (3) - Between Maintenance Yard and E end of A loop. New for my Assateague list!! Scott H. has had them twice on the Island in the last week or so. #296.
Hooded Warbler (1) - Found by the Tricounty Bird Club near the little pond on the Life of the Forest Trail. Adult male. My first in October in Worcester.
Sun (10/2)
Clay-colored Sparrow (1) - Continuing at west end of Bayside C-loop.
House Sparrow (1) - Hoffman and Housten. Around sediment control pond at E end of maintenance yard. Only my fourth for the Island. All in October. Record fall arrival date (prior 10/5)!!
Lark Sparrow (1) - Shell Rd. First seen by Hoffman, independently found by Housten. Certainly a different bird from the one yesterday.
Clay-colored Sparrow (1) - Shell Rd. Makes two for the day.
American Golden Plover (1) - North End ("CUSA flats"). Juv. Hoffman.
Red Knot (108) - 92 on AI/North End (on beach) and 16 at CUSA flats. Hoffman.
White-rumped Sandpiper (1) - AI/North End/CUSA flats. Hoffman.
Photos of all of these in progress, but I am too tired to deal with that tonight, plus I'll be back out tomorrow...
Good birding,
Mark Hoffman
