Just took a quick walk down the road between drenchings. The toads have now
been joined by lawn grubs, about 1 1/2 inches long. Instead of using their
puny legs to crawl along, they are all on their back inching along the road.
I guess the soil is so saturated that the grubs are looking for a dry spot.
Only birds out were a Killdeer calling and a few Jays. A few Spring Peepers
were also calling.
There should be lots of field puddles on the Eastern Shore this weekend. If
only the winds would cooperate to help the migrants.
The Monarch migration this fall is supposed to be very poor. Apparently,
the drought in Texas and lack of milkweed this spring really hurt the
Monarchs coming out of Mexico.
