Yesterday, as Irene was making her presence felt, several BLACK TERNS were observed from the community of Oyster Harbor / Bay Ridge, along with a possible Arctic Tern (observed by several, but views a bit too brief). I'll let others comment on this bird if they'd like. My only impression was of a small, gray-bellied tern with a small bill and (what I noticed most) long tail streamers. The bird was getting blown backwards over land by the winds, alongside a Common Tern.
This AM, I found one BLACK TERN at the Pleasant Plains Sod Farm. Later in the day around 5PM, among the small gathering of Laughing Gulls, some shorebirds were present: 11 Least Sand, 1 Pectoral Sand, 1 Semi Sand, 1 Lesser Yellowlegs and 36 Killdeer.
Good Birding,
