Today (7:30-8:15 pm) I went down to the Boat Lake in Patterson Park to check out reports of a pair of immature Black-crowned Night-herons hanging out. Immediately on my arrival, I found one of them, looked like a 2nd year bird, perched in the dead branches on the east side of the lake. I circled the lake looking for the other bird, and I was about to give up, but then I finally located it. Only, it wasn't a Black-crowned Night-heron. It was a juvenile Yellow-crowned Night-heron. He was by a dead log on the west side of the lake, feeding by walking and hopping along the bank.
