Hi everyone,
Yesterday was my 3rd trip out to Poplar Island for our ongoing field work
there. The Common and Least Terns now have many nests with most of the Commons with 3 eggs, and the Leasts with 2 eggs. Let's hope that the predation is less of an issue this year as opposed to last year.
Highlights included:
American Oystercatcher 2
Black-necked Stilt 5
Black-bellied Plover 1
SHORT-EARED OWL 1 Flushed from the marsh & chased by Red-winged Blackbird
Bald Eagle 1 adult - on Coaches Island
Also, the "regular birds" were there such as Double-crested Cormorant, Mallard, Great Blue Heron, Snowy Egret, Willet, Killdeer, Osprey, Great black-backed Gull, Herring Gull, Tree Swallow, Barn Swallow and Red-winged Blackbird.
