This afternoon at 2:15 I was on Ft. Smallwood Road passing Kembo Road (which is
the entrance road to the Cox's Creek dredge fill site when a raptor flew
hard across the road evading a squadrun of attackers (Redwings and a
Mockingbird). It was quickly obvious that the bird was a Mississippi Kite, and
it was last seen flying west over and then behind a line of trees a couple
hundred yards west of Ft. Smallwood Road. The entire encounter lasted about 20
seconds. It appeared to be an adult.
