Howdy,
Our FSU ornithology class had a lab observing birds at Piney Reservoir this morning. It was a beautiful spring Garrett County day- mid-thirties, heavy wet snow, wind gusting to about 30mph. Although passerines were hard to come by, there was a nice showing of waterfowl on the lake. We counted 14 LONG-TAILED DUCKS in a good sized raft just above the dam. Common Loons, Red-breasted Mergansers, Ring-necked Ducks, cormorants, Horned and Pied-billed Grebes were present in good numbers. Also of note, Piney's Osprey is back, and two RUFFED GROUSE were spotted by the road near the entrance.
Good Birding!
