While walking the south shore of the Inner Harbor yesterday afternoon at roughly 4:15, I spotted an immature male Northern Shoveler between the shore and the moored boats, as well as six American Coots. It flew off about 4:30, but as we walked north on the western shoreline, I noted a lot of ducks pretty far out, that acted like shovelers. I went out on the pier and got close enough to discern TWENTY Northern Shovelers, but genders, and a handful of Mallards. They remained present as we left the area about 5:00. I did not have bins with me, this was a non-birding outing, otherwise would have identified them sooner. And I did not have access to the internet, hence the late report. I did not have a chance to check this morning before departing Federal Hill.
And thank everyone for the Wood Stork, which I saw with Tyler and Jane on Saturday. Especially Dave/Winger (ack, forget which) who called me 7:00-ish to advise it was still present.
