I spent a pleasant day in Frederick County on Saturday. Lilypons was birdy, but I didn't find anything rare -- lots of White-crowned Sparrows, 3 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, 1 Purple Finch, and my FOS Fox Sparrow and Winter Wren. The Fox Sparrow was my earliest fall date in Maryland by about 3 weeks.
I meandered around the county during the afternoon. Highlights included a Common Merganser at Lander, a Peregrine Falcon flying over the lake in Cunningham Falls SP, and a Blue-headed Vireo at the end of the day in Gambrills SP.
All chickadees were Carolinas.
