Howdy,
Yesterday, I birded about ten spots along the C&O Canal, and Greenridge State Forest. I started at North Branch and worked east through Spring Gap, Town Creek Aqueduct, to Paw Paw Tunnel, then back NW through Greenridge SF.
The birds were pretty quiet- I tallied on 55 species, 12 warblers, and nothing extraordinary. Highlights were:
EASTERN SCREECH-OWLs at three spots- Spring Gap along the C&O, Kirk Rd., and White Sulphur Pond (39.651519,-78.478058) around Greenridge.
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES were numerous throughout Greenridge.
COMMON RAVENS and BROAD-WINGED HAWKS were seen and heard at many stops.
White Sulphur Pond on Wallizer Rd. SE had the most diverse group of warblers. Warblers for the day included NORTHERN PARULA, YELLOW, CHESTNUT-SIDED, MAGNOLIA, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, PINE, PRAIRIE, YELLOW & WESTERN PALM, BLACKPOLL, BLACK-AND-WHITE, REDSTART and COMMON YELLOWTHROAT.
Good birding!
