Cecil Bird Club will kick off the 17th Annual Turkey Point Hawk Watch on
Saturday, September 4, with a half-day walk led by Sean McCandless, who can
spot more migrating warblers than anyone I know. Details are on our web site
at http://www.cecilbirds.org/calendar.html#sep
Starting on Sunday, September 5, and continuing through Thanksgiving
weekend, we can use your help, especially between the hours of 9 am and noon
(1 pm on days of heavy activity), weekdays included. If you are new to hawk
watching, I will pair you up with a more experienced observer to get you
started. You simply walk into the hawk watch meadow from the parking lot,
and station yourself at a picnic table, where you can comfortably face
more-or-less north to watch as the hawks come over the trees. You record
your count any way you like, and then transfer it to a form that I'll
provide that you can email or snail mail to our compiler, David Kimball. If
you have health issues that would make driving in easier, we can get
permission from the great staff at Elk Neck State Park to open the gate for
us.
Please let me know if you'd like to be an observer, and which days you can
do. Whether you can do only a couple of days, or you can commit to a weekly
observation day, any time you can contribute will be most helpful. If you
would like more information, please come to the next Cecil Bird Club meeting
on Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 7:00 p.m. in room B120 at Elkton High School or
email me at
Thank you very much for your help.
