Today I finally satiated my curiosity after passing a Worcester County road
sign on Route 50, advertising Herring Creek Nature Park down Keyser Point
Road for roughly the thousandth time. I had never heard of this little
5-acre spot when talking with birders or reading any posts on MDOSPREY, so
naturally I was curious to just walk the little loop trail around the park
and give it a cursory look. At around 2pm, on the southernmost portion of
the loop trail, I first heard and then observed a single Red-headed
Woodpecker calling from a prominent pine perch for roughly 15 minutes before
it flew out of view of the trail.
