Morning all,

Yesterday my daughter and I rode down to Turner Road in Calvert county
for the Greater White Fronted Goose, a life bird for us both. A decent
sized group of Canada geese and gulls were hanging around a wet spot
just past the horse fencing on the right when we arrived. We hit them
with bins and scope but struck out on the GWFG. We could tell that up
ahead the land rolled a little and some birds were hanging our below our
line of sight in a low spot so we cruised up to check them out. Success!
We both had a nice look at the bird and tried to digiscope some pictures
that didn't turn out so well. (I had the wrong camera and there was a
heat shimmer.) While we were scoping the bird I heard something I didn't
recognize. I looked and looked but couldn't find the caller. Finally
three birds flew over making the same sounds. Horned Larks! Another life
bird for us. I had forgotten about them being there so it was a
pleasant surprise. We didn't find pipits but we did see a meadowlark,
killdeer and plenty of brilliantly colored bluebirds.

Good birding,
