Sorry for this late post. While birding Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge (Kent
County) on Sunday the 7th, Nancy Golden and I observed a group of very vocal
Brown-headed Nuthatches foraging on Loblolly cones. One was diligently
working a cavity in a sang! We both enjoyed close looks at these birds
fluttering about the cones and calling!
Being unfamiliar to species distributions in MD, I looked up BHNU in the
Field List of the Birds of Maryland, Third Edition, 1996. In this guide, for
Kent County, BHNU are listed as not confirmed. However, after consulting
with a friend, I was informed that on ebird BHNU have been seen multiple
times in Kent County and have been confirmed.
My question is, is there an up-to-date version of the MD field guide or
anything comparable? I do like using the Field List of the Birds of MD, as
it allows me to look up species information while in the field. Feel free to
respond to me off the listserv if you would like.
Thanks so much for your input!
Also, I was very excited to hear an Eastern Phoebe calling at
Patuxent Wildlife Research Center this morning!
