The exact same thing happened to Barry and me a number of years ago. We were
driving south on Rt. 15 near Lucketts, VA, and nearly went off the road as
we came to a screeching halt when a Gyrfalcon flew across the field on the
west side of 15. We turned into the farm road and were more than a little
disappointed to see said Gyr sitting on the first of a falconer.
We too had a nice chat with him about his (captive-bred) falcon and took
some close-up shots of the gray-phased young bird.
