Dorothy, I lived in Bowie for 25+ years and know the sort of
neighborhood you
likely live in. Your notice will grab the attention of many, many
MD birders and
you may get many requests for information on how to come and look for
your
splendiferous visitor.
I'm only suggesting you put some thought into How, When, and Where
(parking,
line-of-sight viewing places, times of day, etc, etc.) as well as the
reactions of
neighbors to seeing strangers with binoculars & scopes peering around
their homes.
You might consider stipulating a few basic rules for those who try to
contact you.
Just by way of example, there's a family in Fairfax County, VA who've
had a
Varied Thrush at their feeder for some time now -- they have not
given out (and have requested visitors to do the same) their address,
but ask people to call ahead and
arrange a time to come by. That's one approach.
A painted bunting was found in two different sites near Annapolis a
year or so ago
and those folks invited people in -- one to benches in their lovely
landscaped
backyard (screened by trees from their neighbors) the other had a
paved bike
trail behind their house from where birders could see their feeders.
Thanks so much for letting us know about your wonderful prize. I'm
not trying
to discourage or encourage you in any direction, just suggesting you
talk it over
and put some thought into what you'll do with such requests.
Best wishes,
Leo Weigant
