I explored the fields from the main impoundments east as far as they
go and then circled back more to the south. Not a bad day with a good
variety of species- large number of crows feeding in the recently harvested
soybean strips.
With the recent rains the swamps are starting to return to normal
levels so I took the opportunity to search for Rusty Blackbirds and wasn't
disappointed. Found a small flock of 20 in the undergrowth of the main
impoundments and a larger one of 125 or so in the swamp near the middle
parking lot.
The other highlight was 9 Red-headed Woodpeckers scattered through the
area. Acorns are abundant this year and I am finding red-heads almost
everywhere I go here.
