We have lots of owl activity here, or at least they are now more vocal.
Three Eastern Screech owls and two Great-Horned owls were heard last night
from my porch.  The screechies get very nervous when the Great-Horned owls
are about, for good reason!

 

On a somewhat related and on-topic note: does anyone know if there is
owl-banding going on in Washington/Frederick counties again this year for
Northern Saw-Whet owls?  Specifically, this is on Lamb's Knoll on South
Mountain about a mile north of Gapland.  I heard the calls last weekend and
thought, "uh-oh, here they go again".  I have one definite record from our
property, (2004) but in years since then extremely loud tapes that are
played repeatedly have fooled me.  This knoll on South Mountain is behind
our property.  If anyone has information on this, please let me know
off-list.
