Hi All,
Nancy and I were coming back from Chestertown for lunch at home and
decided to check Great Oak Pond after noticing the unusual presence of 6
Forster's Terns cruising over a pond near the corner of Flatland and
Melitota Rds. It was kind of wet and lacking in waterfowl and most land
birds at Great Oak Pd, but quality trumps quantity some days. There was
a Black Tern in first-winter plumage plying the pond on deep wingbeats
among the five swallow species present including 16 latish Purple
Martins and 2 Bank Swallows. We also noted a flying Great Egret near the
corner of Mary Morris Rd this morning.
