Subject: [MDOSPREY] Scissor Tailed Flycatcher in Northern Queen Annes County 8 - 22 -,09
Around 1:30 Pm this afternoon I reciced a phone calll from Jan Reese who had seen a Scissor Tailed Flycatcher near Sudlersville while he was working in the area this morning . I went on up there to check it out arriving around 2:30 pm and finding it in the area he described on a powerline near the road . weather was mostly cloudy at the time but the bird stood out pretty well . Bird is moulting It has only one tail streamer and not much color other then black and gray and a little washed out yellow underneath the bird . I did get some photos that will be forwarded to the records committee. I had the bird in sight for around 35 minutes . I saw it fly out over a corn field and caught some sort of prey item . At 3:05 it flew to some trees behind a mobile home and some old buildings that has a small produce stand in the front yard . Habitat was corn and soybean fields with scattered trees . Bird may stay around for a while seemed to be comfortable in the area .
Directions take Route 301 North to Route 300 east to Sudlersville in town turn on to RT 313 north about a couple of miles out of town look on the the powerlines near the above mentioned small produce stand . Good luck to those who try to refind it . Road Shoulders are fairly wide there but please be carefull of the traffic and viewing is from the road only we have NO permisson to enter private property so act accordingly .
Happy Birding
