Hi Everybody: I spent the entire day on Wednesday in Garrett County. Below are the highlights of what I saw.
At the YOUGH RESERVOIR at the end of W. Old Morgantown Road (north of Friendsville) the mudflats are ideal for shorebirds right now. I was there from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM and saw the following:
Killdeer 115
Semipalmated Plover 1
Lesser Yellowlegs 1
Spotted Sanpdpiper 3
Solitary Sandpiper 2
Least Sandpiper 5
Semipalmated Sandpiper 1
4 of the above shorebird species were new County Birds for me (which tells you how pathetic my list for shorebirds in Garrett is). There was alot of movement of shorebirds in and out during the time I was there. Because of this I was tempted to spend a haldf day or so there but I had other places I wanted to checkas well.
TROUT RUN (at the end of Norris Welch Road)
BLACK TERN 1 adult... just beginning to enter nonbreeding plumage...actively flying around and feeding over the second sewage treatment pond. ((A County Bird)
RUSSELL ROAD
American Kestrel 4
