This topic is tangentially related to birds, but I think would be of
interest to birders (especially those with yards). Apologies Norm if you
think it is too off topic.  

I heard an interesting discussion on Science Friday today (a radio show on
NPR for those who are not familiar with it) with a professor from the
University of Delaware who has written a book about native plants and how
you can use them to encourage and support more birds (and other wildlife) in
your yard.  While many birders are already aware of this, I learned some new
things, and will probably purchase the book as a reference.
