Yesterday (5/9/09) for the Allegany Co. May count I covered some areas in
western Allegany County. These included Burning Mines Rd, Cabin Run Rd,
Shaft Rd, Harvey Rd, Old Legislative Rd, Dan's Mountain State Park, and
Dan's Rock Rd. I managed to cover about 31 miles total between 6:15AM and
11:00AM, and tallied 77 species. Included in these was a great showing of
warblers as I was able to find 19 species (see list below). This was
probably one of my best warbler days ever in Allegany Co. Other highlights
included several Acadian Flycatcher, 3 Henslow's Sparrow, one White-eyed
Vireo, and a single Purple Finch. Also, the number of American Redstart was
truly amazing as I counted 42 individuals, nearly all singing males, across
all the areas I covered.
