Hi all --
This morning, about 7:30 AM, while Barry was taking out the trash for
collection, he heard and saw a male White-winged Crossbill sitting at the
very top of one of our hemlocks, in the sun, singing away! Its song is a
rather weak finch-like twittering, or rattling notes interspersed with the
call notes. Of course Barry didn't have his bins but he rushed in and we
rushed out together, and the bird was still there. But almost immediately it
flew off calling. No other birds flushed with him. He flew around and
(apparently) into a neighbor's garden with some large spruce trees.
Have some appointments today but will try to keep our eyes open and do a
walk around the neighborhood as well...
Still lots of Siskins!
