I took a friend out this morning to see a Red-headed Woodpecker at Hughes Hollow. While we were at Hughes Hollow, we ended up with a 7 Woodpecker day that started with 2 adult Red-headed and 1 juvenile. The birds were very active and were chasing each other along the tree line by the impoundment. We also got good looks at a drumming Hairy Woodpecker. We also encountered a flock of 12-18 Purple Finches in the woods and fields by Hunting Quarter Road and River Road. We also encountered a singing Winter Wren and a beautiful Fox Sparrow.
