Rob Hilton's report confirmed presence of Eurasian Wigeon and Tufted
Duck along the Cambridge Waterfront this morning. Around noon, in those
intense winds, the Barrow's Goldeneye also put in an appearance. I had a
brief glimpse, and a man beside me, from Virginia, had an even better look,
but the bird continues to be pretty skittish. Our vantage point was from
beside the small white work building with the red roof out on the wooden
piers. The Barrow's was again using the sheltered region near the
north-west corner of the pier enclosures. Two birders from College Park
were going to try for a better view of the Barrow's from behind the Yacht
Club. If they succeeded perhaps they will file a report.
An afternoon visit at Blackwater was highlighted by the news that the
female Bald Eagle that stars on their video camera had delivered her first
egg of the season yesterday, Jan 24th. Around the wildlife drive the
highlights included great viewing of a flock of Snow Geese, distant views of
four White Pelicans, and nice views of a dozen Northern Pintail. A Northern
Harrier and several Killdeer were also present.
