Today from at 12:30-1:15 there was one Mississippi Kite adult soaring over the treeline surrounding the fields at the end of the boardwalk.
Description: Long black squared tail. Head pearly gray (it seemed to glisten in the sun). Body darker gray. White on the upper secondaries.
As you emerge from the boardwalk into the open fields, just pick a picnic table and begin scanning. If you walk past the large tree next to the tent, you can see all the way down to the north end of the field. That is the area in which the kite was mostly soaring and diving.
I read the favorite food was grasshoppers and there were certainly a lot of grasshoppers there today.
