The Cliff Swallow invasion continues here today. Around 2:30 PM,
approximately 35 Cliff Swallows flew up from the trees behind the bank barn
roof and then ascended rapidly until they were barely visible. Over the next
half hour, more swallows joined the flock from all directions until there
were 50-55 birds. Most of the birds made a few low passes around the
barnyard before returning to feed at a high altitude.
At 7 PM, 15-20 Cliff Swallows were still foraging above the pastures and
PVSP scrubland. They were joined by 2 Eastern Kingbirds and 4 Tree Swallows.
Counts at the Rt. 32 Bridge:
Sunday evening 35-40 CLSW
Monday evening 2 CLSW
Tuesday evening 0 CLSW
Wednesday afternoon & evening 0 CLSW
I will continue to monitor my unexpected swallow visitors.
