On Monday morning an immature Iceland Gull flew downriver past Violette's
Lock. Late for Montgomery County anyway. That reminded me of the Iceland Gull
that spent the summer of 1989 at Hains Point. Gary Allport's posting about the
fanatical clearing of the birds from Hains Point reminded me of the
groundskeeper there in the 80's or 90's who used to bring his three large dogs out at
dawn. They would race the length of the course, and were amazingly effective.
