I saw my FOY EASTERN KINGBIRD this morning around 6:50 on my walk across
the Strathmore Music Center grounds to the Metro in North Bethesda. It was
perched on a short fence around a small impoundment pond only about 12 feet
from the carriage road, giving me a great look at its back and tail with
prominent white tip. Yesterday, what looked to be the right shape and size
for a green heron flew out of that same impoundment pond and landed in the
top of a small tree not far away. I didn’t have my bins and the light was very
poor, so I couldn’t get a good enough look to make an identification.
