Spent the morning watching the feeders and environs today,
and got some nice diversity. 32 species, including our
first HOUSE WREN of the year (scouting out its usual nesting
sites), a FISH CROW (not seen often around here), a
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, and a male/female pair of PURPLE
FINCHES on the nyjer feeder. Also at least 4 CHIPPING
SPARROWS. No sign of our semi-regular Hairy Woodpecker, nor
any Red-breasted Nuthatch.
Lots of frisky birds too: BLUE JAYS feeding each other, a
CAROLINA CHICKADEE checking out the nestboxes, an adult
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD begging, a male NORTHERN CARDINAL
feeding a female, and at least 1 egg and 2 nestlings in the
HOUSE FINCH nest.
