The woodcock in the Patapsco Valley State Park (scrubland section off River
Rd./Sykesville) continue to be very active.
Throughout the week 4-6 birds have been calling & displaying, but there were
at least 8 here last night. The resident towhees, cardinals & mockingbirds
often respond to the peenting. Perhaps they are annoyed at being kept up
late!
Rain (more soft mud available for foraging) attracts more woodcock, so I
would expect a good show early next week. (Sunday might be a bit cold for
watching).
