Dan and all,
The pond that you see on the west side of the BW Parkway near the Patapsco
River is Patapsco Pond #10. Of interest is that there is a new Bald Eagle
nest on the north side of the pond, easily visible from the parkway. This
is probably the best place in northern AA Co. to find shovelers, and they
are here every winter. Charlie Kucera and I counted 39 of them here during
the midwinter count. We've also seen Am. Wigeon and N. Pintail at nearby
Pond #9 this winter.
For more information on this pond and the other 15 ponds along the Patapsco
River between I-195 and Patapsco Ave., including directions, you can visit
the following website, and click on "Patapsco Ponds" in the menu at the
left:

My experience with inland scoters is that they tend to be one-day wonders.
A White-winged Scoter visited the Halethorpe Farms Pond in 2004, and
departed late on the afternoon that it was discovered.
Thanks for your report, Dan.
