I've heard that several people still intend to try for the white-winged crossbill. At this point, my best advice would be to not bother, as the bird has not been seen, to my knowledge, in over 1 week. This, despite solid coverage from others, as well as pretty regular viewing by yours truly. Of course, I will post again if he returns.
If you have that desire to try your luck, however, or simply to view the loads of goldfinches, juncos, various sparrows, house finches, cardinals, downy woodpeckers, and other residents that visit regularly (including yellow-bellied sapsucker, cooper's hawk, and belted kingfisher), the site is <1/4 mile west of Colesville Rd on Sligo Creek Pkwy. Stand by 3 sewer caps on the north side of the Pkwy, look north up the hill into my backyard...elevated wooden porch with suspended feeders.

"There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot...like winds and sunsets, wild things were taken for granted until progress began to do away with them. Now we face the question whether a still higher 'standard of living' is worth its cost in things natural, wild, and free. For us of the minority, the opportunity to see geese is more important than television, and the chance to find a pasque-flower is a right as inalienable as free speech."
