hello all
yesterday your state had 3 northern invaders chase some birds. Art
Shiavo and Aden Troyer joined me for the day of running.
We decided to venture to Silver Spring first for the White Winged
Crossbill, after traffic heading south, we got there a bit before
10am. We were joined by a birder from Virginia named Stewart. The
bird was not seen while we were there until 1pm. Highlights were an
adult Bald Eagle circling overhead. We did have a friendly black cat
with white feet hang with us for a while. Maybe it knows where the
bird is. :)
From there, we went to Oxbow Lake in the search for the Trumpeter
Swan, which we were able to view from 2 locations.
From there, we traveled to Arnold, MD in the hopes of seeing the
Painted Bunting. As soon as we got there, we saw some birders with a
scope at the feeders along the fencerow towards the bamboo and
bridge. They then left and we were in charge of the shift. Finally
another birder came down and asked if had seen it, which we hadn't
and left us know that it was across the road on the trail at the big
green hopper feeder. At 4:23pm, the bunting came and feed for approx
5 minutes before flying off.
If that couple who was birding before us sees this, make sure you
find the location of where the bird is now being seen. We also saw a
Chipping Sparrow at the feeders.
