See Life Paulagics has sold out its first 4 dates scheduled out of North
Carolina
already, so we are adding 3 more dates.  We have scheduled trips on Fri,
Sat, and Sun,
June 6-8 out of Manteo, NC.

The trips are aboard the legendary Country Girl, an extremely fast and
comfortable boat
out of Manteo.  The captain is highly experienced and the boat uniquely
suited to chasing
down fast flying rarities.  All boat trips have enough friendly and
experienced leaders
for the group.


Target Pelagic Birds:  Herald (Trinidade), Fea's, Bermuda, and Black-capped
Petrel,
Cory's, Greater, Sooty, Manx, and Audubon's Shearwater, Wilson's, Leach's,
and
Band-rumped Storm-Petrel, White-tailed and Red-billed Tropicbird, Pomarine,
Parasitic,
and Long-tailed Jaeger, and Roseate, Common, Arctic, Bridled, and Sooty
Terns. Excellent
rarities found on this boat in the past include North America's first
accepted
Black-bellied Storm-Petrel, North America's second accepted Bulwer's Petrel,
multiple
European Storm-Petrels, multiple Bermuda Petrels, many Fea's and Herald
(Trinidade)
Petrels, and both White-tailed and Red-billed Tropicbirds.


Manteo is incredibly convenient to the best local landbirding sites and
great local
attractions, making it an excellent place for an extended visit, even for
non-birders.

For land birding, Alligator River NWR is nearby.  Target birds there include
Swainson's
Warbler.  Many other southern species can be found there like Barred Owl,
huge numbers of
Prothonotary Warblers, Yellow-throated Warbler, Black-throated Green
Warbler, Bobwhite,
and Blue Grosbeak.  Palmetto Peartree Preserve has nesting Red-cockaded
Woodpecker, as
well as Red-headed Woodpecker.  Pea Island and Bodie Island are close by for
lingering
shorebirds, herons, egrets, and ibis.  Brown-headed Nuthatches can often be
found right
around the motels in Manteo!


There are also sites and activities nearby for non-birding family members
that might
travel with you.  The Wright Brother's Memorial and Jockey's Ridge are
minutes away.  For
the truly adventurous, you can even take hang gliding lessons there!  Manteo
has a great
aquarium, the Elizabethan Gardens, the Lost Colony show, and the sailing
ship replica
Elizabeth II.  For a bit of activity, there is the Nag's Head Dolphin Watch,
plenty of
places to rent kayaks and waverunners, sailboarding lessons, etc.  For those
who love
lighthouses, Manteo is centrally located for visiting the beautiful brick
Currituck
light, Bodie Island light, and the famous Cape Hatteras light.
