Dear All
Frank Hawkins and I had a pleasant if rather quiet morning's birding in DC
today.
We started at georgetown Res., as Frank had had two Black Terns fly over his
house nearby at dusk last night. Nothing to report there. Fletcher's was also
quiet but with 3 Gnatcatchers and 1 Yellow Warbler and four overflying
Caspian Terns.
We then tried Hains Pt. There was a nice group of warblers around the wood
chipping heap at the end of the point including Yellow (4-6), Chestnut-sided
(1), Prairie (1), Redstart (1), Red-eyed Vireo (1), Warbling Vireo (1).
There were 8 adult Laughers amongst the gulls at the end of the point. Bird
of the day though was a rather surprisingly obliging first summer Merlin
perched on a dead tree nearby which allowed close approach and excellent
views.
Cheers
Gary
