Hi all,
A few things for the past week to report.
I had my first ever Pileated woodpecker in Annapolis.
Ive been birding in the area around my work for about three years on breaks
and such and for the first time saw a Pilated WP . Never expected to see one
in this area as I only work about two blocks from the mall. This is a small strip
of woods that is getting smaller each day. I was feeding the birds at a spot
between a building and the strip of woods and he was flying through the
woods . Then landed and flew off with the loud and conspicuous call as
decribed by jerry tarbell.
SWAP- Southwest area park near Linthicum
Been here many times and always looking for the Pheasant or Woodcocks
which get reported alot here. Well finally seen the Pheasant. At the marshy
pond on the right as you are heading to the boat launch . The bird flew out
from the marsh grass in front of me and went across the pond and down into
the marsh grass . wasnt looking for the Pheasant on this day so was a big
surprise. Also seen the Bald Eagle on the nest at Delaware ave.(the kids
playing basketball didnt matter much i guess. ) and one flying through the park.
Flock of 20 or so Songsparrow eating on ground . Osprey. 1 unidentified hawk .
Belted kingfisher , Mallard, Pie billed grebe , Canada goose, Redwinged
blackbird, Tree swallow .
Race Rd. Elkridge
My first time to this area . Although been up and down these back
roads .Never went down this one. Absolutely amazing . Its suppose to be a
bike route . I pulled off at a couple of the open areas . Id have to say this
had to be my best bird spot yet. I was able to see birds listed all from one
spot while sitting in the car.
