Every day on the way home from DC I watch the RFK parking lot and
river (south side) as the Metro comes out of the tunnel toward New
Carrollton. Normally, don't see anything out of the ordinary, just a
bunch of Ring-billed Gulls, but once in a while something unusual is
there. A few weeks ago it was a Cooper's Hawk on the ground just off
the RFP blacktop, standing in the grass with dinner. Yesterday it
was 6-10 Black-backed Gulls in with the Ring-billed Gulls on the
parking lot. Today it was 4 or 5 Black-backed Gulls in the water and
a Little Blue Heron standing on the tree stump. (no mud flats, high
tide). Nice surprise.
