A late lunch around 2 PM afforded good views of some
ducks at the Race Rd. beaver pond near Elkridge. This
stream, Deep Run, serves as the HOCO-AACO boundary
just south of the Elkridge Furnace Inn. Viewable from
the power line cut on the HOCO side were about 12
Green-winged teal, 15 Gadwall, 2 Wood ducks, 10
Mallards, and 30+ Canada geese. A Great blue heron
stood watch on the whole affair and a Barred owl
called twice from the woods.

This stream takes an extreme silt-beating with every
rain, but the upstream half of the pond seems to clear
up within a day or two and waterfowl are finding
things to eat. This is amazing given the number of
bulldozers and new parking lots just upstream.
