I just had a male Baltimore Oriole at my peanut butter suet feeder. The
leading wing bar is no longer white and is starting to take on an orangish
(orangeish ???) cast. I had a Baltimore Oriole at the feeders over 6 weeks
ago and not again until now. I assume it is the same bird.
I drove to Wye Island this morning. The wind and snow squalls cut back on
any long walks. At the bridge, I had many Canada Geese, a few Scaup and 3
Ruddy Ducks. Canada Geese were the dominant bird this morning. I did find
Meadowlarks. Also, I found two Red-tailed Hawks sitting within 50 feet of
each other and then one of them flew over and perched beside the other. It
then glided down over the field, dipped at one point and scattered 5 or 6
smaller birds. If he (she?) was hunting, it missed.
On the way home along Bloomingdale Road, I saw a flock of at least 50 Horned
Larks.
