Norm - I hope you will forgive me for this email.
After seeing Mark Hoffman's email about the Chincoteaque CBC, I can't pass up the opportunity of letting all of you Maryland birders get an idea about what a Maine CBC is like. The following CBC is just a little tougher than most but we really have to work to get 45 species per count here. Most CBC's here consist mostly of driving around checking all of the feeders in your count area.
Hope you all have a productive 2007.

Subject: [MAINE-BIRDS] Misery Township CBC
Dear Mainebirders,
Four participants took part in the always-challenging Misery Township
Christmas Bird Count (West Forks, Lake Moxie, Misery Gore, etc.) on 12/29.
Results this year are consistent with gradual climate change/warming,
aggressive industrial forest "management" and clearcutting over the past
twenty years (with some small re-forested plantations starting to mature),
and parceling of former forestland into home/camp lots.
Please note that we are in great need of participants every year; this CBC
requires a great deal of hiking/walking/skiing partnered with good listening
skills and a great amount of patience. There is very little feeder
watching! There is, however, some great scenery, long periods of solitude,
and the chance to see some of the boreal specialties.
Let me know if you think you might be interested next year.
